What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Hands down the violin. When my uncle came to play for me from Germany I heard it for the first time. It was absolutely mesmerising. Still is to this day.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

All sorts. From electronic to classic rock and everything in between. I used to make mix tapes for all my friends and for anyone lucky enough!

What was the first album you remember owning?

Hmmm probably Sublime – Greatest Hits

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Free Bird!

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Hmmmm – just let it all guide me. Usually something is trying to be said or something is calling you, you know? At times you can coax it out more, summon it if you will. Most of the time though, it summons you. So my rituals are all around being ready with a catcher’s mitt.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Honestly I’ve been more into world music at the moment and pop. Also, latin music really has spoken to me lately too. If I could pick one artist that I would go to in a pinch I would say Anoushka Shankar.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Dead: Freddie Mercury
Alive: Lady Gaga

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The music lol. That feeling I get when everything else melts away and each and every note delves deep into my soul.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Everything else!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

That you never really know who you are singing to or playing for. You never really know when that voice of yours is going to reach deep into somebody and really move them. When it will really touch them in just that way that nothing else can. So always sing as if every line and every note has the power to cut right into each and every soul.
