What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Guitar was the first instrument I really dedicated myself to. But it wasn’t because I necessarily wanted to play. One of my best friends came over to my house when we were kids and he had been playing guitar for a few months and was showing me how good he was. I literally started playing because I had the thought “I could be better than him if I tried” . He is still better than me but I’d say I did ok.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I was very into classic rock. Dio, Black Sabbath, Ozzy etc.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I don’t know if it was the first album, but it’s one of the first I remember owning. It was the movie soundtrack for South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. I was waaaaay to young to be listening to that haha.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Now that’s a tough question. But I’d have to say Jealous by Labrinth . It’s such a beautiful well written song.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I usually just down my body weight in caffeine and lock myself in my studio.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Teddy Swims and X Ambassadors are on repeat which I think my friends are probably annoyed with at this point.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Well in my early days of music I was in a pop punk band and I always wanted to open for Fall Out Boy. I still would do it if given the opportunity.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Performing and being able to process life through the lens of music.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Release day haha. It’s a lot of work making sure everything is in place to have a successful single. But it’s worth being able to share my art.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
“Stop treating every song like it’s the last song you are ever going to make.” I would get stuck analyzing every second of the song and a friend of mine told me to stop overthinking and release my songs . Easily the best advice I’ve ever gotten.
