After returning with his stunning Fatbabs collaboration 'When I'm Back' earlier this year, Munich-based artist Cellz is back once again to deliver his woozy new offering 'short cut'.
Teaming up with Fred Red for the new release. 'short cut' makes for an incredibly rich and illuminating listen. With its rich and tender textures, sweeping atmosphere, and mesmerising vocals layered throughout, he is continuing his ascent as one of the more alluring names doing the rounds right now.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
The saxophone to be honest. I started off with guitar but that didn’t really work for me. As I saw the group of saxophone students at my music school I asked my mum to swap.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
50 Cent, Eminem, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Billy Talent and a bunch of German hip-hop.
What was the first album you remember owning?
The first one I purchased was “The Massacre - 50 Cent”.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
“Drown In My Own Tears - Ray Charles”
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I would turn on Voice Memos right before I play the beat and start humming all kind of melodies that come to me while trying to structure them into the different song parts. Most of the time the lyrics are the story of my life for that certain period. Once I decided for a topic, I find the right sounding words to match the melody pattern. It usually takes me like 20 minutes for a song.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Oscar Jerome, FKJ, Pale Jay, BLK ODYSSY.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Tom Misch
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Recording new music. Time just flies. I love that!
And what is the most frustrating part?
Accepting that you have to be consistent with your social media hustle.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Start early with releasing music and playing live. Expose yourself early and gain experience along the way. You don’t have to have a flawless product before making a move.
