What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I played in jazz bands in middle & high school so I fell in love with the fluidity of tones that tenor saxophone brought to the overall sound in the room.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Growing up in my house, you could hear anything from Erykah Badu to Public Enemy. Ultimately, Hip Hop scratched all the right itches, and I fell smitten to the lyricism and wit of the world’s best rappers.

What was the first album you remember owning?

“The Block Is Hot” by Lil Wayne, and I still have it.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

“Soundtrack To My Life” by Kid Cudi. Growing up in Ohio, I always found that song all too relatable.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I typically write all my hooks first.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Janelle Monáe’s “The Age of Pleasure” album has been on an infinite loop, and I would love to meet her. Drake for sure. A lot of Doja Cat, B.I.A., SZA, Jessie Reyez, and Zeina in my AirPods recently too.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

J.Cole

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I’m addicted to the process of making an idea into reality. Being a musician allows me to feed that craving on a daily basis.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The most frustrating part is also the most important to me — evolving. I find myself listening to songs I finished a few months ago differently after seeing growth in recent recording sessions.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

All of the best advice I have received has come from binge-watching “The Cheat Code” podcast with Wendy Day, Rapjuggernaut, and Ferrari Simmons. I would just watch that.
