Getting To Know... Family Mart

Despite only beginning their venture as a band back in August, Austin-based trio Family Mart are already cracking out the gems as they return with their third single to date, 'Starlite'.

With a bold and diverse love for the post-punk and alt-rock sound, 'Starlite' makes for a fresh and vibrant return for the trio. Filled with a bright atmosphere, pulsing rhythms, and some wonderfully breezy vocals, these guys are certainly onto a winner with only a few tracks to their name so far.

So with the new single out and about, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and what has inspired them most over the years.

What were the first instruments you fell in love with?

Guitar. I think I cried every time my mom took me to a piano lesson.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

The feeling of being incredibly worthless if I don't do anything creative.

What kind of music did you love as teenagers?

When indie used to be called alternative. Now no one wants to touch that word.

"Drown" by Smashing Pumpkins off the Singles Soundtrack.

When you wake up in the morning, what kind of music do you like to listen to?

I remember I used to always put on Rage Against The Machine back in the day. Now I just want silence.

How many of your songs have you written about people in your life?

I'm sure a lot.

What have been the most memorable moments in your career so far?

The Family Mart career is still very new but I already know it will be the first show we play when we can all do that again.

Outside of music, what are your biggest passions?

It was the NBA bubble. Now I have no idea what to do with my life.

If you weren’t musicians, what other path do you think you might have taken?

Would definitely watch more TV.

And what advice would you give to other musicians looking to start a career in music?

Work incredibly hard and expect absolutely nothing.
