Getting To Know... Jason Patel

British R&B artist and actor Jason Patel begins 2026 with the release of his new single 'Do It Again?', a tender and introspective love song that arrives as his first new music since the debut EP Delicious. Known for crafting emotionally rich songs that sit at the crossroads of vulnerability and storytelling, Patel’s latest release offers a slow-burning alt-R&B ballad that explores the lingering question many people ask after love ends: if you could relive it all, would you still take the risk?

Written and produced with JustAnt and Aurlyn, the track grew out of late-night conversations about imperfect love stories and the bittersweet beauty of relationships that don’t quite work out. With its understated production, aching melodies, and cinematic atmosphere, 'Do It Again?' captures the quiet courage of choosing love despite the possibility of heartbreak.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

It was the piano. My grandma from America convinced my parents to get me a keyboard after I used a permanent marker on the windowsill to draw out a keyboard and caused a lot of chaos.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

My dad had a pub when we were younger, and it always played iconic music like Prince, Queen, and then all the 2000s pop hits. I was fully in the mirror singing Toxic and Womanizer with a full dance routine.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album I ever went out and bought myself was Lady Gaga’s debut album The Fame. I saved all my pocket money for a month and remember getting the album with a giant poster, then buying gigantic sunglasses in primary school to recreate the artwork.

What is one song you wish you could have written yourself?

I wish I had written Paparazzi by Lady Gaga. It is, to me, the best song in the world.

Do you have any habits or rituals when trying to write new music?

I have this “writing outfit” that I always wear to the studio. It’s a grey GAP tracksuit and I feel so creatively free in it. The flow of the outfit brings flow to my energy. I also never wear shoes because I want to feel fully connected to the earth. Oh and I always do a huge warm-up that I’ve been doing for years.

Who are your favourite artists you’ve been listening to at the moment?

I’m really obsessed with three artists. First, Amelia Moore — she’s iconic and currently on tour with Zara Larsson, and I would love to write with her one day.

Second, Jacob Alon, who I met at an awards event. We sat together, and then they performed and took my breath away. I’m so proud they just won the Critics’ Choice Award at the BRITs. And finally, a new artist with only two songs out: McKayla Twiggs. She has this incredible sound that makes me want to take my clothes off and move. You should listen to ‘What A Girl Wants’ and ‘Golddigger’.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I would love to open for JADE. I think she is crafting her artistry so beautifully and boldly. She continues to push the boundaries of what’s expected and how stories can be told. I’m utterly in awe and inspired.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The most rewarding part is seeing the growth of the people who have continued to follow me on this journey, and new people discovering me. I’m also learning and trying my best to navigate this world and industry, especially as a self-releasing and self-managing artist. It’s a full-time commitment, but when I see messages or comments from people saying they heard my music and love it and believe in me, I know I’m not alone. That’s magical.

And what is the most frustrating part?

That I’m doing all of this by myself. So if you want to join the team and be part of this pop boy’s destiny, then drop me a message.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received as a musician?

Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Be honest about who you are, and do what you love!
