Having already cemented himself on the scene with a wealth of impactful efforts these last few years, Australian rapper J.B.T returns once again to offer up his stunning new mixtape 'Burn Szn II: Higher Learning'.
Bringing back more of that fresh and illustrious hip-hop aesthetic he has built for himself since he first emerged, 'Burn Szn II: Higher Learning' marks another vital addition to his ever-growing catalogue of late. Filled with bold and pulsing textures, a sweeping atmosphere, and his own electrifying flow layered throughout, he is continuing his rise as one of the more engaging names doing the rounds right now.
So with the new mixtape available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has inspired him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
I don’t really play any instruments, but i'd say the piano/keyboard always interested me, and still does.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
My music hasn't really changed from when I was kid, I grew up with hip-hop, and R&B and soul/pop.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I remember my dad owning all eyez on me by 2pac and I stole both discs out of his car when I was 8 years old haha.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
I’d probably say the D’evils by Jay Z.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I used to write 4 bars at a time and record on the spot, that was my routine for a good 5 years or so, but as of recently I have been going off the dome. I always need to be smoking while I’m recording as well.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Right now I don’t have any artists in particular, but I’d say Freddie Gibbs, Tory Lanez, Usher, J.I.D.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, freddie gibbs.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Witnessing the growth as an artist and a person, and seeing everything I’m manifesting coming into fruition.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Having all this talent, putting in all this work, and not seeing the recognition I know I deserve.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
As long as you’re putting in the work and actions to make what you want happen, then it’s gonna happen. You just gotta do certain things to make sure it happens.
