What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The first instrument I fell in love with was the drums, but that love didn’t stick. I wanted to write and sing.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I was a big pop guy! So anything Max Martin wrote I loved.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I remember it being a backstreet boy album. Shortly after I got the Eminem Slim Shady LP which blew my mind.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Jolene by Ray Lamontagne.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Not really, I try to keep it simple. I guess the only thing that could be ritualistic is my coffee before a session.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Right now I am listening to 3 artists. The Teskey Brothers, Al Green and Matt Corby. I tend to listen and enjoy what they can do that I can’t , so I can learn and add a bit of their colour to my art.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Well this week I’m opening up for Earth Wind and Fire in Hawaii so that's kinda hard to beat. I am very honoured and grateful for such an opportunity.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The healing power of music. To write something and for it to connect with millions of people around the world. When someone listens to a lyric you wrote and its all they needed to hear to get through their day.

And what is the most frustrating part?

I guess I'd have to say it's the business side of it that can be frustrating. Like not being able to get on playlists or radio for example. The music business is a tough world so you got to truly believe in your talent and art and push for every inch of success.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

To be yourself and love what you create.
