Getting To Know... Julixn

Emerging from the creative undercurrents of Minneapolis, genre-bending artist Julixn is steadily carving a name for himself as one of the Midwest’s most captivating new voices. With the release of his latest single 'Blurred Lines', he leans even deeper into the moody, shape-shifting sonic identity that sets him apart, a place where genre boundaries dissolve and raw emotion takes centre stage.

Operating out of a stripped-back home setup and driven by a fiercely independent spirit, Julixn builds immersive soundscapes that feel more like films than songs. 'Blurred Lines' is no exception; a brooding blend of lush guitars, pulsing rhythms, and textured foley, crafted with just a laptop, a mic, and a notepad in a bedroom studio. It’s this minimalist yet deeply intentional process that gives his music its emotional weight and atmospheric pull.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The guitar, both my parents played guitar and although I didn’t spend much time with my dad, anytime I would go visit his green electric guitar on a stand was the first thing that greeted me at his place.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Everything. I was exposed almost exclusively to country and Christian rock until a friend showed me Eminem in 6th grade, and from there it was all downhill. I loved everything, but my favorites were rap and hard rock, think Three Days Grace, Rise Against, Breaking Benjamin, etc.

What was the first album you remember owning?

American Idiot by Green Day. As a matter of fact, I might have to go throw that on right now.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

start//end by Eden. I don’t know if there’s ever been another song that’s made me feel like that song.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

DND the phone, open all the windows to let the light and creative energy in, and loooots of caffeine.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Eden, Shaboozey, Brakence, Jack Kays.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

MGK or Travis Scott. Heavy vibe and unreal energy at those shows.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The creative expression & release. For me, being an artist is mostly about the actual process of creating the music, of course I love when people connect with a song but I really am mostly making the music because I enjoy the challenge, I make stuff I like listening to, and it keeps me sane.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Dealing with blocks. Everyone knows about writer’s block but sometimes I just go through phases or ruts that are hard to get out of. It’s frustrating because I know it will pass, and oftentimes some of my best work is on the other side of one of these ruts, but it doesn’t necessarily make it any easier to be patient and work through it.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Embrace the cringe. Don’t cover yourself in so much bubble wrap that you can’t feel things; good or bad it’s all part of the experience that molds you and your art.
