Getting To Know... Junior

Following on from the release of his much-loved EP 'The Secret Ingredient' in recent months, Bedford-based artist Junior keeps the vibes high once again on his infectious new single 'Tonight (I Like It)'.

Bringing back more of that fresh and upbeat hip-hop-infused direction he is known for, 'Tonight (I Like It)' makes for a vibrant return to form for the artist the helm. With his smooth and killer flow riding across a bouncing production from start to finish, he is returning to the fold with one of his catchiest tracks to date.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him lately.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I started playing drums in middle school at around 10 years old. This, music lessons, as well as my Dad’s passion for music all led me where I am today.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I’ve always loved all sorts of music. Hip-hop stands out.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album I ever had was Timbaland’s “Shock Value II”.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Runaway - Kanye West

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

If it doesn’t give me goosebumps it won’t get released!

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

At the moment I’m a big Omar Apollo fan. I’ve listened to “Ivory” on repeat for months. Also, I’m a huge Feux fan. I’ve always supported up-coming rappers from the UK and he is flourishing.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Probably Kendrick Lamar.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

When taking a chance is appreciated and welcomed.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The most frustrating part of being a musician is definitely writer's block.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

“You have to fall to fly”.
