Bilingual soul artist Ka Ma returns with her powerful new single 'Fearless', a deeply introspective and genre-blending release taken from her forthcoming album 'Picasso – The Art of Loving'. Inspired by Erich Fromm’s seminal work, the project continues Ka Ma’s exploration of love, identity, and emotional growth through a richly layered sonic lens.
On 'Fearless', Ka Ma fuses R&B, soul, and urban textures with Eastern influences, weaving in sitar elements and hypnotic production to create a late-night, meditative atmosphere. Featuring Australian artist MightyMike and sitar work from Riccardo Di Gianni, the track reflects her multicultural background, bridging Western and Eastern traditions into something fluid and boundaryless.
So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Because it’s the instrument closest to the human voice—the very first medium of music. Its range feels like the depths of the human heart.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I’ve always loved soul and gospel because they’re visceral, raw and …spirit-filled. But I also went on deep journeys with Celtic and new age music, especially Loreena McKennitt, who made me feel connected to something ancient… almost like my ancestors. And through it all, I was madly in love with Sting’s music. Lol
What was the first album you remember owning?
Brand New Day by Sting. A must.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
There’s more than one… But if we stay with Sting—Desert Rose.A Masterpiece.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
My songs are rarely “planned.” They arrive like apparitions—moments of enlightenment that don’t give me time to organize anything. But when I need to shape them… bare feet, incense, a glass of wine at home. Or outside—a coffee in a bar, or a bench in front of trees.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Loreena McKennitt, Gregory Porter, Jill Scott, Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, Diana Krall, Sting, coldplay, U2 lol. Maybe I’m a bit stuck in the past—but I’ve also been listening to Raye. I love her soul.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Loreena McKennitt… or Gregory Porter… or maybe Raye.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Giving birth to something invisible and making it heard. Transforming ashes, pain… into fire, into fuel, into beauty—through a song.
And what is the most frustrating part?
The mindset of labels and the market. It often feels like everything is about appearance, numbers, social media. You’re always being asked to prove something. I just want to make music and connect with people.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
“Listen and observe first, then create.” You can’t pour out if you haven’t filled your heart first.
