Getting To Know... Kin Crew

Following on from a flurry of bold and anthemic cuts over the last few years, fast-rising Canadian duo Kin Crew have now returned with their blistering new single 'Feels Good'.

Taking their cues from the pop-punk sound and adding their own distinctive twist to it, 'Feels Good' makes for the perfect accompaniment to these ever-brighter summer days. Jam-packed with killer hooks, euphoric pace, and a catchy chorus to boot, these guys are certainly heading in the right direction with this one.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The first instrument we ever fell in love with was guitar! Although we wanted to play piano it was a little too complex for us! Gee actually took “Guitar, Vocal, & Piano'' lessons all at the same time. Needless to say, he never mastered any of them haha, it was too much! But the love for guitar never faded! Gee loves guitar, Brandon loves piano, but neither of us are great at any of them, YET! haha

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

We both loved hip-hop. That's why when we first started we were rappers! We both grew up on rap, so instinctively when we decided to try to pursue music we started in rap. As we evolved and grew our tastes started to change, but brandons true love will always be in hip hop!

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album that really comes to my head when I think back is either 808’s & Heartbreaks by Kayne West or Drake's Take Care album!

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Perfect By Ed Sheeran! There are a lot of songs I wish I wrote haha, but this one takes the cake for me. The amount of memories & moments that people have created over the years I can only imagine.. This song will live on for a very very long time!

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

We have zero hahaha, it's so different everytime we create a song. Sometimes we write solo, sometimes together, sometimes with people. We can start with lyrics, a demo, guitar. There is no structure to our creation process. We Just like to sit down and let out our emotions and that can happen differently every time!

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

We’ve been listening to alot of 24kGoldn, MachineGunKelly, Modsun, & a new artist we just found named “Lord Lawrence”. Lord Lawrence has such a unique sound & image!

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Machine Gun Kelly! One day it will happen & it’s going to be a legendary day for us! I think that would be a truly incredible show!

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I would say it’s a tie between hearing stories about how something you've created has made an impact in someone else's life or being able to put into words something that someone else cannot in the sense of experiences!

And what is the most frustrating part?

Definitely the mental toll it takes to be in the industry & having your life on display. Dealing with the negative backlass of others no matter how genuine or positive your message is, fight with the highs and lows of your career. Staying positive and believing in yourself even when others don’t!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

It all starts with the music, if you don't have good music then you don’t really have anything. and on the flip side, you can be the best musician in the world but if no one knows you exist then no one will be able to appreciate your music. You need to find a balance between good music & marketing. You can’t just have one or the other!
