What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

that was actually the ukulele with the song riptide, it was so simple yet so strong so i wanted to learn that - i started playing the saxophone when i was 8 but i wouldn’t count that as the instrument i fell in love with because i always felt I looked weird playing it

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

i listened to a lot of Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Hozier, 21 Pilots, Beirut, The Tallest Man On Earth, AnnenMayKantereit, Left Boy, Nothing but Thieves and Jon&Roy

What was the first album you remember owning?

i actually never owned and do not own any album, my family wasn’t really into music so i never was one of those people who went to buy an album or a CD - but my brother once gifted me a Vinyl when i was like 18, that was Cleopatra by The Lumineers which was also one of my favourite Albums back then so I’d say this one would be my first Album i owned

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

easy one - Beach Baby by Bon Iver - this is the one Song that really stuck with me for the last couple of years, it’s so vaguely written yet it feels like it describes my feelings so clearly - this is actually what i want to do with my songwriting - making people feel something, and this song does exactly that with me

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

i usually do not have any kind of particular ritual but i am always trying to go in as free as possible, no fear of writing bad songs, no judgement for whatever comes out of my head - i usually write very intuitive and most of the time, thinking just stands in the way of creating a new song

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

been listening to a lot of Jon Bellion lately, i just love what he does and how he does it - especially his new release WASH2 or i also’ve been watching simple&sweet by him live from cove city - more than once - it’s beautiful to see how happy he is playing his own music

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

probably nothing but thieves - i love the band and and especially their singer - conor mason - he’s got a very soft yet so powerful voice

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

when you write a song where u just know, damn, that’s a banger right there - where u listen to the voice memo on repeat and just can’t stop doing so - i just love that feeling

And what is the most frustrating part?

for every time u have a high there’ll be a low phase after that - it’s constantly changing and sometimes i find it hard to keep up with it - one night u play a gig and get so much positive feedback and the next day u wake up and it’s just another ordinary day but i guess that is a very human experience - but i feel these up’s and downs in a very intense way when it comes to music because i do a lot of it

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

„a mischpult is ka kläranlage“ - it translates to „a mixing desk isn’t a wastewater treatment plant“ this advice was given to me by one of my former music teachers - it really helped me focus on writing simple and good songs, focusing on what i liked about music and trying to capture that in my songs, trying to write good songs with just a guitar and my voice i really believe that a good song sounds good no matter with or without the production around it it can sound good with a whole orchestra or just guitar and voice - acoustic style

and just because i am also using it right now when answering these questions - „don’t overthink it“ is also peak advice
