Rising pop-rock artist Maryann Connolly continues to carve out her own distinctive space with the release of her latest single ‘Etched In Love’, a deeply emotive track that showcases her ability to blend vulnerability with strength. Drawing from a rich mix of pop, rock, Americana, and subtle country influences, Connolly’s music captures the complexities of modern emotion while remaining accessible and cinematic in scope.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
I fell in love with the guitar. It started in middle school, I wrote my first song called “Hold On” . The theme is that everything will be alright and just believe in yourself. It's a powerful instrument that brings out emotion for me.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I liked classic rock, and country. I grew up with my parents jamming to Journey, Styx, and AC DC.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I remember owning a Taylor Swift Album. She was my idol.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
My habits in writing new music is keeping a journal of different ideas from relationships and life. My ritual is finding a chorus that finds that emotion in my heart. Next, I play the chorus on guitar or piano and try to sing it. Finally, I tweak my lyrics to be simple and tell the story that matches the chorus.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I like listening to Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Christian Aguilera, Sabrina Carpenter, and Josh Stone.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
It would be Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran is an amazing singer-songwriter that creates engaging lyrics for the audience to cry or dance to his music.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
The most rewarding part about being a musician is changing the emotion on the notes or chords of the instrument.
And what is the most frustrating part?
The most frustrating part is promoting your songs on social media.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Never give up.
