What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I would have to say the guitar, because being able to sing and play at the same time is the best! Playing the guitar also led me to perform my songs as a singer songwriter on stage and while busking.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

My dad introduced me to Pink Floyd, and we used to listen to their album ‘The Wall’ while living in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. I just loved the rebelliousness of this record and the depth of it. Some other bands I liked were Soundgarden, Garbage, and PJ Harvey.

What was the first album you remember owning?

PJ Harvey’s ‘Rid Of Me’ was one of my fav’s.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

I have such a wide appreciation of music styles that I just can’t pin it down to one song. My aim is to write, express, and create the best I can as my own person.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

No, but I can tell you that my lyric journals are really messy - I just jump in and go for it. So, I guess this is my habit - it has to be messy, otherwise I feel uncomfortable. Lots of scribbling out, re-writing, on different mixed-up pages – the messier the better.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

So many! My taste in music is really broad. To name a few - Mansionair, Baker Boy, Ocean Alley, King Stingray, Lime Cordiale…. the list goes on. Oh, and of course Goyte always makes it into my playlists.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Wow, this is a massive question, I will have to think hard about this one… Ok, got it – it would be Australia’s own, Midnight Oil.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

To be able to express my artform! The freedom it gives me when playing my guitar and singing is fulfilling and amazing. To be able to share my songs, my stories, my viewpoint to the world is a blessing. I also really enjoy the process of recording in the studio, it’s work that I love to do, and I feel so grateful that I’m able to do this in my life!

And what is the most frustrating part?

Like doing anything creative, it can be challenging and frustrating to get past yourself. I can have days where it all just flows, and I can write a song in a couple of hours. But then there are other days that I feel like I’m stuck in a mass of fog of non-inspiration… but this space can also be where little gems are born!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Believe in yourself as an artist, as this is the first step to achieve your vision.
