What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Electric guitar!

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I grew up listening to a lot of rock music, my favorite band in high school was Muse.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I think the first one was probably Metamorphosis by Hilary Duff, I loved her as a kid.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

That is a tough question! One of them is definitely In My Place by Coldplay.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I love to set up somewhere comfortable and private with my guitar and a notebook, and I just mess around with it. Usually, I like to write lyrics and come up with brand new ideas when I am alone and safe to explore even my most vulnerable ideas. Later on in the process, I love to collaborate with others.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I am loving the new Wolf Alice album, and I have really been loving Phantogram lately as well.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Probably Muse, they were my idols when I was starting to play music in a band, so it would be pretty full circle.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The most rewarding part of being a musician is the connections you make with other people. I think that working with others to express an emotion and create a meaningful piece of art is a super rewarding process. I love taking a song from beginning to end. It’s also extremely rewarding to connect with people who have listened to the music and have felt seen or understood by it. I know that music has been there for me in my darkest times so to be that comfort or catharsis for someone else is really meaningful.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The most frustrating part is that there is no real blueprint on how to have a career as a musician, and it isn’t always a smooth path. As an independent artist, I have had to figure out how to do a lot of things myself, and I’ve done a lot of trial and error along the way.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

The best piece of advice I have ever received has been to enjoy the process, and to detach from the outcomes.
