What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I’d say my voice. I’ve been free-styling since a teen so I definitely found an affinity for my rap voice early.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Primarily hip hop, but all kinds really. I grew up in a household where music was always playing. One day I could be listening to Gucci Mane, lil Wayne and Boosie, the next I’m listening to Prince, Anita baker and mint condition. Deftones, Green Day, Paramore, Drowning Pool had me captivated on MTV in the mornings before school. After school it’d be the diplomats, Kanye, and 50 cent on 106 and park.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I got Death Row's greatest hits compilation CD when I was like 11. Shortly after that I switched to an mp3 and discovered good ol’ limewire.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

That’s a really hard one. I don’t really wish I could write anyone else’s song. But I do wish I could witness the process of one being created in real time. That song would be human nature by Michael Jackson.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I really try to clear my mental space and smudge my space before writing at home. Definitely helps me get into a flow state.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

My favourites currently are Sampha, planet Giza ,Toure, Loe shimmy and Kodak Black’s newer work.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I’d love to open for Drake. I think that would take the cake.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Knowing that your music could be the soundtrack to someone’s life. Their daily commute , workout , or downtime can all be filled by consuming your art.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The patience that is required when you're in between life and the art. It’s those small moments that really inspire us to do what we do.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Create what you like, create what you feel, and don’t be scared to try something different. When you chase a wave you put yourself behind the 8ball, cause when that wave dies so does yours.
