Getting To Know... Olympia

London-based singer-songwriter Olympia steps into the spotlight with her debut single 'Dear God', an emotionally raw introduction to an artist whose journey is as compelling as her sound. Drawing inspiration from timeless voices like Etta James and Freddie Mercury, Olympia blends classic soul influences with a modern, deeply personal edge.

At its core, 'Dear God' is a vulnerable, piano-led reflection on heartbreak and loss, framed as a direct and intimate plea for understanding. Built entirely from instinct, Olympia crafted the track without relying on traditional production tools, mapping out every element in her head before bringing it to life through collaboration, layer by layer.

So with the new single out now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The classical piano. I was only six years old when my parents and I went to watch my older brother’s end-of-year classical guitar showcase. There was this girl who played the piano before him, and I remember being absolutely amazed by her expression, her body movement, and the sound of the instrument.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I have always been a big fan of pop music in general, but I tend to go through phases with what I listen to. Classical music was the first genre I fell in love with when I was a kid. Then I remember listening to a lot of rock music. My dad is a rock guy, so growing up I was really familiar with that sound. I also went through a serious EDM phase in my teen years, and later in my late teens I was introduced to jazz and soul music, soul music became my favourite genre. What I always remember most is being completely drowned in melodies and emotions, the kind of music that made my heart feel like it was flying. I could listen to anything, as long as the melody made my body react that way.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The Fame Monster by Lady Gaga. She was my first celebrity crush. Absolutely obsessed with this album (until this day).

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

For All We Know by Donny Hathaway.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Nothing very special I think. I just make sure my phone is kept away from me, the windows and curtains are closed, and everything around me is quiet. I get distracted very easily, so I try to minimize distractions as much as possible.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening to RAYE a lot, she’s phenomenal and the new album is a piece of art. I’ve also been listening to the first work of The Beatles lately. Oh and James Blake. In love with his new album.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Adele!!!

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Watching your vision slowly come to life. Actually listening to what you had in your head for a long time. Nothing more fulfilling than this.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The self-doubt, constantly questioning whether you’re good enough, and the thought that only my friends and family will ever listen to my music haha!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

‘You should detach yourself from your art’.
