For Seasurfer, beauty and noise have always belonged together. The Hamburg trio have spent years developing their self-described “dream-punk” sound, placing delicate vocals and dreamlike melodies against enormous guitars, distortion and darker post-punk textures.
Their new four-track EP ‘The Noise Is Ours’ pushes those contrasts further. Following June’s 'Angels', the record moves through ideas of loss, impermanence, rediscovery and love without dictating exactly what its songs should mean. Instead, Seasurfer create vast, immersive spaces in which listeners can find their own interpretations.
So with the new EP out now, we sat down with the band's Dirk Knight to find out more about their origins and what has been inspiring them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
The guitar, of course…
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
Punk music
What was the first album you remember owning?
The Sweet “The Golden Greats”
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
M83 “Midnight City”
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
Yes, visit big cities, soak up the atmosphere and find inspiration.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
“Bowery Electric” from NYC with their cool trip-hop-shoegaze sound and “Kaelan Mikla” from Iceland.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
The Cure…was at their show in Berlin, still my favourite band.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
The moments when songs evolve are fantastic.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Getting ripped off by record labels. That`s why we`re doing it ourselves now.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Do what makes you happy, even if it's dark and sad music.
