What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

I actually first fell in love with the drums. Most of my family thought I was going to be a singer and a drummer, like a Karen Carpenter type.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

As a young teen I listened to a lot of Alternative Pop / Rock. Mostly anything I’ve listened to over the years, I still listen to. I have an ever growing collection I’ve garnered over the years through Spotify that I still typically press shuffle on. It's at 4,000 songs right now.

What was the first album you remember owning?

My first album that I can recall was by The Turtles. And The Fame by Lady Gaga.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

My answer always changes, but right now it's Pressure to Party by Julia Jacklin. Such a great song and amazing vocals.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I like to write with ambient soundscapes playing somewhere in the background sometimes - helps me tap in when my mind is all over the place. I like to write the lyrics on a different page over and over, which is usually where I find words to change and edit. I usually do that around 5 times.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I found myself listening to Alice Phoebe Lou, BbyMutha, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Sir Chloe, and Stereolab over the last few weeks to name just a few.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I’ve never thought about that before. Maybe MARINA (formerly Marina and the Diamonds), I just love her. And I feel like her fans are so die-hard and high energy. That’d be fun.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The most rewarding part about the work I do is the messages I get from people who just want to know about me. People have literally brought me to tears by just dm’ing me telling me they love my songs and how excited they are to hear new ones. Knowing that I made someone happy or made someone dance and feel good for 3 minutes gives me a feeling I never want to let go of.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The only frustrating part is myself, the way I pick myself apart into the most unmotivated state. It happens. I’m finding ways to live with that, so I can;t complain. I’m just grateful to have what I have right now.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

I don’t consider myself a “musician” because I’m not an expert or master in any instrument. I haven’t had training in voice or any instrument, I just know a little bit of this and little bit of that - and it works for me. I’ve been told not to get too hung up on what I know or what I don’t know. Use the tools you have now and make them unique to your sound. Add a new tool to the box whenever you can. Be patient and observant.
