What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Well, originally I’m a drummer. I started playing in the 4th grade. But I was only allowed to play until 9pm, so I got a hold of an acoustic guitar in the 9th grade and would play that from 9pm until I was ready to sleep - eventually making the full transition. I still have a drum kit though & play pretty often.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

When I was a child I loved the Beatles, the Monkees & The Beach Boys. Then I was a skate rat/surfer punk so it was the Sex Pistols, Misfits, etc. Then I found out about Led Zeppelin, the RHCP, Pink Floyd, the Clash, the Smiths, the Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam & the Beatles all over again.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Beastie Boys - License to Ill

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

It’s not one song but Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End off of the Abbey Road.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I tend to write early in the morning when my head is clear and I haven’t been inundated by the goings on of the world yet. So it’s a window I try to capitalise on!

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Daft Punk a lot, but that’s been going on for years. Tame Impala & Leonard Cohen.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

This world? The Foo Fighters may’ve? Pearl Jam? Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds?

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Songwriting. Easily.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Waiting for the records to come out!

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Don’t listen to your parents! Just go follow your dream & run with it until the end.
