Ghostface Killah - '36 Seasons'

7/10

While the world waited on baited breathe for the return of the Wu Tang Clan earlier this week, one of their most established members Ghostface Killah has also chosen this time to release another solo studio album. And while the return of Wu Tang was not quite the comeback we were expecting, Ghostface has delivered yet another interesting hip-hop release, this time opting for a concept record. '36 Seasons' tells the story of a "hip-hop superhero", and does so with some brilliantly composed RnB-inspired productions.

Taking a very instrumental and familiar approach to the genre, this new album has this very focused direction where all the samples and originally beats keep to the same formula, giving the album a contained sound that allows Ghostface to tell his story. Using the guest artists like Pharoahe Monch, Shawn Wigs and Kool G Rap as characters in the story, helps you become more emerged in the record and ultimately, enforces this underlying theme that keeps you interested and engaged within it.

It's certainly a great listen and even though this is the MC's eleventh studio album to date, it is clear that he hasn't lost any of his ambition or initiative to create compelling and well-rounded rap albums.
