Ghostpoet - 'Shedding Skin'

7/10

Having ridden the peripheries of the British music scene for the last few years, Ghostpoet has managed to take the angst and loathing of London-living and given it a beautiful and soulful direction that has made him one of the most captivating artists of the modern day. After two critically acclaimed albums, his third 'Shedding Skin' seems to show a more uplifting side to the musician's ethos and gives this record a mush more multifaceted approach.

While it still maintains that downtrodden feel his previous work displayed, this latest full-length has a more progressive sound running through it. This can easily be shown through the track 'Be Right Back, Moving House', a song that begins with his usual solemn attitude but slowly builds into euphoric crescendo that perfectly fits the tone of this new record. It seems that Ghostpoet has tried to step out of his comfort zone on this new release and work on music that does not necessary fit what his fans would be expecting from him.

It is still filled with his usual brooding vocal style, but with this extra side to his production, it has allowed the normally depressive side to his music to really come to life and ultimately delivers a record with true variety and a sense of hope.
