London electronic artist Girl Next Door, the project of producer and vocalist Sarah Carton, is entering a new era with the announcement of her forthcoming sophomore EP, 'The Internet Belonged To Girls', alongside shimmering new single ‘Shotgun’.
A nostalgic rush of synths, electronic textures and infectious pop energy, ‘Shotgun’ looks back on the intensity of young love, summer nights and the hazy memories that never quite leave us. Produced by Carton with James Middleton of Porij, the track brings a brighter, more euphoric side to Girl Next Door’s sound.
The single offers a glimpse into the world of the upcoming EP, which explores growing up online, girlhood, digital identity and the strange nostalgia attached to the early internet. Think MSN Messenger, MySpace, glitter graphics and online friendships, but viewed through a more reflective, emotionally complex lens.
Carton describes ‘Shotgun’ as a song about “the strange feeling of believing one night might change your whole life”, capturing the track’s mix of infatuation, chaos and dreamy optimism.
