The Go! Team - 'Get Up Sequences Part One'

7/10

Having remained a consistent name on the new music scene since their incredible debut album 'Thunder, Lightning, Strike' in 2004, The Go! Team have always looked to embrace the freedom and imagination as a part of the mainstream peripheries. For the past twenty years, they have delivered one upbeat and euphoric collection after another, giving them a consistent direction that is always looking to plant a smile on your face. And now after three years since their previous outing 'Semicircle', they return once again with their sixth full-length 'Get Up Sequences Part One', a record that is about maintaining that driven sound.

It is almost hard to imagine a group these days that are able to hold onto their distinct style for nearly two decades, and still come across as fresh and inventive with it. But The Go! Team have such a wonderfully intrinsic hold on their aesthetic that they remain unmistakable with everything they create. 'Get Up Sequences Part One' is one of those rare beasts that keeps the nostalgic energy of their former selves levelled throughout, but is still looking to embark on something forward-thinking and adventurous, showing us that they are far more interested in staying true to their roots than whatever flash-in-the-pan sound may be working the rounds in the moment.

From the start, 'Get Up Sequences Part One' is a smooth and vibrant ride that rarely falters from its smooth and concise guise. The Go! Team have always been this rare and shining light on the UK's new music scene, and this new effort continues that legacy even further than we thought it would all those years ago.
