Former Ubiquity Machine member herbie the rabbit introduces his new solo project with ‘Burn the Witch’. Produced by Jordan Lawlor of M83, the single begins a wider run of releases expected to unfold over the coming year, ultimately leading towards a full-length album.
‘Burn the Witch’ takes a sardonic look at accusation, misinformation and collective judgement, questioning how readily people accept somebody else's version of events before deciding who deserves the blame. Dark humour runs alongside that frustration, giving the track a deceptively catchy surface while its lyrics examine complicity and the ease with which narratives can become accepted as fact.
Its imagery draws from the story of Lilith, whose refusal to submit has made her an enduring symbol of defiance. With this new release, the project begins on an intriguingly dark note, combining accessible songwriting with a considerably sharper lyrical edge.
