Horizonte Lied - 'Nuevos Horizontes [Remastered Edition]'

7/10

There is a notable difference between revisiting old work and reimagining it. Many remastered releases simply polish what already exists, enhancing details without fundamentally altering the experience. 'Nuevos Horizontes [Remastered Edition]', however, feels like something altogether different. For Monterrey veterans Horizonte Lied, this release functions more as a reckoning with their own history.

Long regarded as one of Mexico’s most enduring electronic underground acts, Horizonte Lied have spent decades refining a sound built on shadowy atmospheres, layered synthesisers and emotional introspection. Yet this latest collection finds the trio looking inward as much as forward, using familiar material as a vehicle for reflection, reinvention and personal growth.

The most striking aspect of the EP is its sense of transformation. These compositions may have originated years ago, but they rarely feel tethered to the past. Here, they carry the weight of accumulated experience, shaped by time, distance and changing perspectives. The result is a collection that feels remarkably cohesive despite its long developmental journey.

'Tu Enigma' stands out as a particularly thoughtful piece, examining the process of reassessing beliefs and confronting uncomfortable truths. Elsewhere, 'Punto Crucial' explores emotional avoidance before gradually moving toward a more hopeful perspective, while 'Romper una Era' closes the journey with a meditative sense of release. Its expansive atmosphere and reflective tone give the impression of standing at the threshold between past and future, looking back one final time before moving forward.

The production itself also deserves recognition. Built through years of experimentation across evolving technologies and recording approaches, the EP demonstrates a meticulous attention to detail. Every synthesiser flourish, rhythmic pulse and atmospheric layer feels carefully considered, creating a listening experience that continues to reveal new dimensions long after the first playthrough.

For a band with such a lengthy history, it would be easy to rely on nostalgia. But here, Horizonte Lied choose reflection. 'Nuevos Horizontes [Remastered Edition]' is a thoughtful examination of growth, memory and self-awareness. By confronting previous versions of themselves, the band have created one of their most emotionally resonant releases to date. And in doing so, Horizonte Lied remind us that looking backward is sometimes the most meaningful way to move forward.
