Ibibio Sound Machine share new single 'Mama Say'

With their eagerly-awaited new album landing early next month, Ibibio Sound Machine have now dropped the next cut to be lifted from their forthcoming full-length.

The new single 'Mama Say' follows on from the previously shared ‘Got To Be Who U Are’ and the record's title-track in previewing their new LP 'Pull The Rope', which is out on the 3rd May via Merge Records.

Speaking about the new offering, they said, “This track is simply about honouring women - the main chorus vocal is sung in pidgin and says “Mama say make I honour am”, in other words “mother says I must honour her” - it is essentially about empowering and uplifting the women in our lives. The track plays musically upon the tension between the traditional and modern… the arpeggios in the chorus were played on a Juno 60 and the west African vocal stylings of the verse provide a contrasting feel to these electronic elements.”
