Trust Iggy Pop to make one of the most intriguing albums of the year. 'Post Pop Depression' is his collaboration with Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, and also features fellow Queens member Dean Fertita as well as Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders. Essentially this is one of the biggest supergroups of the last few years, all controlled at the helm by one of rock's most formidable characters. And the result is not what you would expect.

Having cut his teeth as the snarling frontman of The Stooges, this new material sees Iggy Pop as more of a crooner in a desert rock band. Opening with 'Break Into Your Heart', a track that could have been lifted straight from the Queens Of The Stone Age archives, the record attempts to create a mood that is both raw and settling in equal measure. The result is a fairly low-key album that sees the protagonist exercise his inner David Bowie that almost gives him a whole new persona to work from.

It is certainly a different record to what his fans would have expected, but the result is plenty enjoyable. While it never really blows your socks off, it still manages to stay interesting from start to finish and gives a real sense of artistry and depth to this living legend.
