INTERVIEW: The King String Tangle opens up about his UK tour plans and more

Having already built up a huge following in his home country Australia, producer Danny Harley aka The Kit String Tangle has now begun to feel a little buzz over here as well. Not one to keep still for too long, the beatmaker will be heading to the UK very soon to promote his self-titled debut studio album, so we thought we'd catch up with him to see what he has in store for us.

Hi Danny, how are you doing today?

I’m having a fantastic day thank you for asking.

You have already made a big impact back in your home country Australia, but for those here that haven’t heard of you yet, can you give us a brief idea of the music you make?

I make alternative electronic pop music, I produce and sing the songs and I draw influence from artists like Jamie xx, London grammar, Bon Iver to Odesza.

And you have been a musical presence in Australia for many years now. Can you tell us when you started making beats and who inspired you?

I started making beats when I was in bands many years ago and then started my solo project and really dived in then. I was inspired by the local underground beat makers in my city, most of them have quit doing music by now though sadly.

You have been very prolific with your output over the last few years. Do you find it easy to be inspired when creating new music or is it more of an impulse you can’t control?

I don’t feel like I have been that prolific, however I’m about to be even more so. I love putting out music and I have so much music coming out of me at the moment, it seems the further I go down the rabbit hole the more inspired I become. Watch this space.

You will be heading to the UK for a short stint of gigs later next month. Aside from the shows, what are you most looking forward to when you head over here?

I actually have all of my extended family living there so I’m looking forward to seeing some of them. Apart from that I also love a lot of artists located in that part of the world so I’m hoping to get a day or two free for some writing sessions.

And you are going to be performing as a live show. Does that mean you are being joined by others on stage or are you still going to keep it a strictly one-man show?

I’m bringing a drummer with me also. I’ve been performing as a two piece most of the time lately so it’ll be a more polished and engaging show in theory.

You have already released your self-titled debut album last year and dropped another mini-album earlier this year. Can we expect any other new music from you in the near future, or are you focusing more of the live shows for now?

I’ll have another song out in the next month or two and then plenty of new music to follow that, so I don’t expect to be quiet in that respect. I’ll be working towards another larger release for early next year and working on a new live show which I can hopefully bring back to UK / EU late 2018 / early 2019.

And what about your five-year plan? Do you have any dream achievements you would like to happen as you progress as an artist?

I’d mostly just like to refine my own direction and sound as an artist and keep my output high and interesting. I think if I can do that and keep myself afloat then I’ll be a happy chappy.

And finally, are you planning any surprises for those coming to see you on tour later next month?

I’m excited to be bringing more than a one man show across the pond for the first time ever. I’m hoping we’ll surprise with how loud we can get.
