Johnny Marr has unveiled ‘Ophelia’, the latest preview of his forthcoming studio album 'The Age Of Everything', due for release on the 2nd October via BMG. Arriving after the album's lead single ‘Spin’, the new track offers another glimpse into what Marr has described as his most emotionally revealing body of solo work to date.
Inspired by Shakespeare's tragic heroine, ‘Ophelia’ pairs driving instrumentation with reflective songwriting, drawing on the character's resilience as much as her vulnerability. Marr explains that the song was sparked by similarities he recognised between Ophelia and someone close to him, allowing the title and melody to evolve naturally during the writing process.
With 'The Age Of Everything' on the horizon, ‘Ophelia’ reinforces Johnny Marr's enduring ability to combine melodic ambition with thoughtful songwriting, adding another compelling chapter to one of British guitar music's most influential careers.
