Kate Nash will celebrate her Irish heritage on 'Cailín', a raucous and deeply personal sixth album arriving on the 22nd January through Kill Rock Stars.
Eleven years in the making, the record was produced by KoOoLkOjAk and recorded at Stiúideo Cuan on Ireland's west coast, with traditional musician Charlie Lennon overseeing the sessions. She brings together traditional Irish sounds, punk, hip-hop production and her unmistakable pop instincts across songs exploring family, love, religion, inequality and identity.
Leading the record is ‘Spilt Milk’, an intense punk-driven track originally inspired by Ireland's former constitutional restrictions on abortion. Ireland voted to repeal the Eighth Amendment in May 2018. Nash says the song explores bodily autonomy and the feeling of having your voice ignored, while connecting those ideas to more recent debates surrounding reproductive rights.
Raised in North Harrow by a Dublin-born mother, Kate Nash spent childhood summers with family in Ireland. With this new album, those memories become the foundation for what promises to be one of her most personal and adventurous records yet.
