Kelpe - 'The Curved Line'

7/10

As one of the more experimental producers on the electronic music spectrum, Kel McKeown aka Kelpe has always looked to push the boundaries of his musical output and create works that are uniquely him. Combining liquid synths, jazz-esque arrangements & hip-hop style drum patterns, the beatmaker's fifth album 'The Curved Line' is once again twisting our perceptions of a producer and giving us a more lucid experience in the process.

Through its use of subtle samples and fragmented loops, 'The Curved Line' delivers an altogether more diverse experience than most electronic records. Its sheer eclectic nature not only helps break up the repetitive flow of his musical style but also turns the album into varied collection of tracks that allow the producer to showcase his talents throughout many different forms.

Kelpe is certainly still on top of his game as this latest full-length shows. Interesting and engaging throughout, 'The Curved Line' is definitely not the work of someone coming to the end of their musical lifespan.
