Lana Del Rey - 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club'

8/10

Since the release of her breakthrough studio album 'Born To Die' in 2012, we have watched in awe as Lana Del Rey continues to be one of the world's most consistently brilliant artists. Rarely giving herself more than a year's respite between releases, nearly everything she produces comes out as a beautifully warm and enticing release that rarely falters. So with one of the most impressive winning streaks we have seen in decades still underway, she returns with her seventh full-length 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club', a record that isn't looking to break her run of form anytime soon.

Linking up with golden boy of the moment Jack Antonoff to assist in the production side of things, 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club' makes for an incredibly deep and passionate release. While choosing to strip back the production a lot more than we usually get to hear from her, this new collection marks itself as a more intimate and lo-fi offering to what we heard on her 2019 offering 'Norman Fucking Rockwell'. Her stunning voice is not only the staple ingredient on this album, it is the complete focal point, as if Del Rey is singing her swan song into an ethereal abyss from start to finish.

But while it does have this incredibly dense and atmospheric sound to it, Lana Del Rey's songwriting is still the most captivating part of this collection. Although she very much holds onto a formula for her work, there still remains something beautifully original about each of her works, giving this a fresh yet familiar feel that continues her ever-impressive direction.
