Lark releases debut single 'Residue'

San Diego singer-songwriter Lark turns the lingering memory of an almost-relationship into something beautifully tangible on her debut single ‘Residue’.

Throughout this new offering, Lark captures the peculiar heartbreak of mourning something that never quite began. Perfume hanging in a room, fingerprints across fogged glass and bubble gum stubbornly stuck to a shoe become wonderfully vivid metaphors for the traces another person can leave behind.

There are echoes of Gracie Abrams, Lizzy McAlpine and Taylor Swift in her affection for confessional songwriting and sharply observed imagery, but ‘Residue’ already hints at a distinctive voice beginning to emerge.

Personal, nostalgic and impressively assured, ‘Residue’ is an exciting opening statement from Lark, transforming all the unanswered questions of “almost” into an indie-pop song that proves remarkably difficult to shake off.
