The Memo - 'Futures Ours To Find'

7/10

Liverpool indie-rock risers The Memos make good on their early promise with 'Futures Ours to Find' — a debut EP that feels both deeply personal and unmistakably anthemic. Known for their raw energy, heartfelt songwriting, and sharp lyricism, the band have channelled that growing live reputation into a record that captures who they are right now: honest, hungry, and unafraid to feel everything.

Led by frontman and songwriter Aaron Spencer, The Memos blend the punch of 90s Britpop with the drive of mid-2000s guitar-led indie, shifting effortlessly between high-octane euphoria and intimate, reflective moments. The result is a collection that feels cinematic in scope but rooted in real emotion. As Spencer puts it, “‘Futures Ours to Find’ is about dreaming big and feeling empowered to take the risks. There are themes of struggle, adversity, and resilience, but also optimism and love — believing in yourself against all odds.”

Across its four tracks, the EP charts that emotional spectrum with striking confidence. 'Standing There' bursts in with northern swagger and bright, jangling guitars, setting the tone with defiance and drive. 'Born Again' opens the door to something gentler — a hopeful moment of clarity and renewal — before 'She’s On Her Own' strips everything back for a raw, heartfelt reflection on single parenthood that stands as the record’s beating heart. The closing title track ties it all together, its refrain of “keep your head up high” ringing like both an instruction and an act of faith.

Recorded and produced by Ben Harper (The Mysterines, The Zutons, The Sherlocks) at Liverpool’s iconic Motor Museum, 'Futures Ours to Find' sounds bold and alive — polished enough to shine, but never at the expense of feeling. Spencer’s songwriting chops, honed through collaborations with Kyle Falconer (The View) and Justin Hawkins (The Darkness), come through in every melodic turn and lyrical hook.

'Futures Ours to Find' is the sound of a band stepping into their moment — all heart, conviction, and wide-eyed belief that the best is yet to come. Stream the full collection below.
