After years spent working within more conventional musical environments, The Myth Pool throw away the rulebook with debut single ‘In It Together’, a wonderfully imaginative introduction to the collaborative project of Amie Penwell and Vicente Rodriguez.
Their initial offering emerged from a simple GarageBand loop and an older Penwell demo, but quickly became the catalyst for an entirely new creative philosophy. Working from an apartment with whatever equipment they had available, the pair discovered a freedom that traditional studio sessions had rarely afforded them.
And that sense of possibility runs throughout The Myth Pool’s sound. Brooding electronics, soulful vocals and alt-rock textures collide with flashes of 80s new wave and cinematic atmosphere, landing somewhere between Massive Attack’s shadowy trip-hop and PJ Harvey beamed into some distant future.
And with this new release, The Myth Pool arrive as an exhilaratingly curious new project, turning the limitations of DIY recording into a playground where almost anything feels possible.
