Dublin alt-rock outfit Nova Dream come out swinging on new single ‘El Matador’, a ferocious introduction to their forthcoming EP and a major step forward for a band rapidly gathering momentum.
Exploding out of the gates, the track embraces a louder, rougher side of Nova Dream, throwing garage-rock volatility into the kind of enormous alternative hooks built for packed-out venues. Vocalists Josh Bartschi and Gabriel Rizzo share the spotlight across its towering choruses, giving ‘El Matador’ an exhilarating sense of scale without sacrificing the grit at its core.
Taking its initial inspiration from the phrase “Unemployed Dreamer”, discovered during a visit to a second-hand bookshop, the song turns the matador into a symbol for the everyday struggle to maintain control when life feels increasingly disorderly. Mundane reality collides with dreams, memory and nostalgia as the band search for escape from repetition.
