North London collaborators Jake (Oaken Lee) and Tim (CutWires) join forces as Oaken Wires with their debut track 'Footprints'.
Originally sketched out by Jake as a forgotten demo on his laptop, the song found new life when he sent it to Tim as the basis for something fresh. What followed was a rapid creative exchange as Tim reworked the original folk-leaning stems into a bold, electronically textured framework, reshaping the track into something far removed from its initial form. Over the following months, the pair refined the piece, layering new vocals, bass and guitar alongside synths, beats and expansive production flourishes.
Lyrically, 'Footprints' reflects on unity during difficult periods and the emotional weight of transition, recognising when it’s time to hand things over and move forward.
The single marks the first official release under the Oaken Wires name, building on last summer’s CutWires remix of Oaken Lee’s 'Reach Out'. Drawing from alternative pop, electronica and roots-driven songwriting, the duo channel a broad palette of influences while carving out a sound distinctly their own.
