Rotherham’s Purple Dots have arrived with purpose. Their debut single 'Stared at the Sun' introduces the raw, riff-driven world of Ryan Felvus, a self-taught guitarist, songwriter, and working-class poet whose sound lands somewhere between Jimi Hendrix, The Stone Roses, and modern psych-indie like Wunderhorse.
Recorded at Tecna Studios in Sheffield with Daniel Glover (Self Esteem, Slow Club), the track hits hard from the opening bar, as a hypnotic, fuzz-drenched groove underpins Felvus’ soulful vocals and scorching guitar licks. It’s unapologetically analogue as music that lives in real rooms, played by real hands.
Backed by a heavyweight studio band including Erroll Rollins (Belinda Carlisle, The Human League) on drums, Joel White (Pulp) on keys, and Marcus Axlby (Boy on a Dolphin) on bass, the result is confident, psychedelic indie-rock, alive with grit, texture, and spirit.
