Avant-garde pioneers The Residents are set to bring their iconic 1979 album 'Eskimo' to the stage for the first time ever, headlining the EXOTIKON festival on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the historic Mayan Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
Long shrouded in mystery, 'Eskimo' is widely considered one of the most influential experimental records of its era—an ambitious, surreal sound collage that deconstructs Western imperialism and cultural myths through invented Inuit rituals, eerie chants, and sonic abstraction. Now, more than four decades after its release, Eskimo will be performed live in its entirety as part of the two-day celebration of mid-century exotica culture.
Presented by Peekaboo Gallery, EXOTIKON is a genre-defying festival that explores the retro-futurism of the 1950s–1970s, blending Tiki escapism, lounge music, surf rock, and outsider art in a kaleidoscopic immersion of sound and spectacle. The Residents’ 'Eskimo' performance will serve as the festival’s crown jewel, promising a reimagined interpretation that fuses original recordings with new staging, characters, and storytelling.
