Northern Irish alt-rock project Rumour Den surge forward with ‘Chapter & Verse’, an exhilarating guitar-driven single that brings a brighter, more immediate edge to their increasingly impressive return.
Built around driving guitars, live drums and a wonderfully memorable chorus, the track finds longtime songwriting partners AJ Gilmore and Steve Simms stepping away from some of the brooding atmosphere of their recent material without sacrificing its emotional depth.
‘Chapter & Verse’ begins with the story of a failed writer confronted by an unfinished book, before expanding into something far more universal. Abandoned ambitions, fractured relationships and disappearing confidence gradually force its protagonist to consider an uncomfortable question: when do we stop blaming circumstances and accept responsibility for the life we've created?
Following ‘Sea of Trees’, ‘Part of the Problem’ and ‘All in This Together’, the single continues an unexpected creative resurgence for the duo. Having originally worked together during the early 2000s, the pair returned to old material last year only to discover that completely new songs quickly began pouring out.
