Seamus O'Muineachain - 'Cage Of Time'

7/10

With his eighth full-length offering 'Cage of Time', Irish composer Seamus O’Muineachain continues his quiet rebellion against linearity, carving space for reflection through restraint. One where each track is a gently flickering candle; brief, hypnotic, and illuminating in unexpected ways.

Swapping out the digital sketches of his early drafts for the worn resonance of a weather-beaten upright piano, O’Muineachain taps into something elemental here, deliver a release that is intimate, deliberate, and free of unnecessary polish.

What’s remarkable is how much story can live inside such sparse architecture. The instrumental 'Petrichor' channels hesitant phrasing and breathlike pauses to give us a listening experience that speaks louder than words. While 'Storms of Anchill' swells with quiet unease, like weather rolling in over distant hills. And on 'Rainwashing', you can almost feel memory dissolving in the downpour, both blurred and beautiful.

There are no choruses to grab onto here, no hooks to hum; just a series of gently shifting tableaux. 'Cage of Time' invites you to slow down and exist outside the pressure of destination. It encourages you to trace your own meanings in the space between notes. You might hear grief. You might hear acceptance. You might hear nothing but the echo of your own thoughts. All are valid.

O’Muineachain has always embraced ambiguity, but this may be his most distilled meditation yet. It’s a record less concerned with saying something specific than with inviting you to listen inwardly. And in a world addicted to velocity and resolution, Seamus O’Muineachain offers music that floats, waits, and watches. Music that trusts you’ll fill in the blanks as it plays.
