Sean Hopkins - 'Pictures Of Nothing'

7/10

When he first broke through with his much-loved debut LP' 'Chasing Ghosts In The Dark' in 2022, US singer-songwriter Sean Hopkins instantly established himself as one of the more emotive names emerging that year. Combining a warm and passionate approach to songwriting with his shimmering vocal style gave him an instantly alluring presence that he has been building upon ever since. And with plenty of time to figure out his next move, he returns once again with his eagerly-awaited sophomore album 'Pictures Of Nothing', a record that continues that lofty aesthetic of his.

Much like what his initial offering introduced us to, 'Pictures Of Nothing' captures a beautifully rich and tender emotion as it plays. Using a stripped-back production of simple guitar and piano chords, Hopkins is able to breathe life into his newest collection, inviting yet more passion and vigour into his work. Certainly a strong and confident continuation of his previous material, this ten-track collection keeps its head firmly above the tide as it looks to sweep us away with its vibrant serenades from start to finish.

Definitely one for the fans that tuned into his previous LP, 'Pictures Of Nothing' builds upon his dynamic foundations with style and aplomb here. Capturing some of his more lovelorn moments to date, Sean Hopkins continues to shine across this fresh and expansive new full-length.
