Self Esteem unveils new single '69'

Self Esteem, aka Rebecca Lucy Taylor, returns with the release of her audacious new track '69', alongside a playfully provocative video directed by Piers Dennis.

Bringing her signature wit, confidence, and sharp social commentary to the dancefloor, '69' is a house-infused anthem that flips the script on sexual dynamics. “I always wanted to write a song that lists sex positions and rates them,” Taylor explains. “A lot of my music is saying the things I struggle to say in real life. I like the idea of clearly communicating your needs in one quick, three-minute house song.”

But beyond the humour, '69' is a bold political statement. “Women are still expected to cater to others sexually,” Taylor adds. “I can’t hear another discussion about ‘faking it’—it upsets me too much! There’s enough inequality in the male/female dynamic as it is. Our bodies go through so much more pain and suffering—please God, let us get the pleasure where we can!”

'69' is the second track to be lifted from Self Esteem’s highly anticipated new album 'A Complicated Woman', due for release on the 25th April via Polydor Records. Watch the new video for it in the player below.
