senses - all the heavens'

8/10

With their hotly-tipped sophomore LP 'all the heavens', Coventry’s senses unveil their most audacious chapter yet, an album that unfolds like a weightless dream, shimmering between sorrow and euphoria in equal measure.

Abandoning any urge to retread old paths, senses push further into expansive and progressive territory here. Teaming up again with trusted producer Gavin Monaghan, they’ve crafted a collection that feels both intimate and galactic, as if we’re eavesdropping on private confessions transmitted from some faraway constellation.

Guest contributions from Callum Pickard, Ash Sheehan, and Ange Lloyd act as subtle brushstrokes on this lush canvas, adding warmth and texture without overshadowing the band’s core vision. On tracks like 'manchurian' and 'call me out', synths cascade in towering waves, while layers of unexpected instrumentation drift beneath, creating an atmosphere that is as immersive as it is unpredictable.

Moments of gentle introspection bloom into soaring choruses, transforming personal grief into something communal and uplifting. It’s a balancing act few bands manage by creating catharsis without cliché, and grandeur without pretension.

Following up 2023's debut 'Little Pictures Without Sound', 'all the heavens' sees them unveil a luminous map of heartache and healing, a testament to what can happen when a band chooses to leap into the unknown rather than cling to comfort. It’s the sound of senses unbound, reaching for infinity.
