Shura announces new album 'I Got Too Sad For My Friends'

British singer-songwriter and producer Shura makes her long-awaited return with the announcement of her new album ‘I Got Too Sad For My Friends’, set for release on the 30th May via Play It Again Sam. Alongside the album reveal, Shura has shared its first single ‘Recognise,’ marking her first new music since 2019’s critically acclaimed LP 'forevher'.

‘Recognise’ acts as a bridge between Shura’s past work and her new chapter. The track begins with ethereal synths and delicate, whisper-like vocals before blossoming into an unexpected cascade of frenetic drum rhythms. Lyrically, it delves into the complexities of artistic identity, dreams, and the unpredictability of life. Shura wrestles with themes of self-doubt and gratitude, ultimately arriving at the realisation that being alive—and appreciating life’s quiet moments—is enough.

Shura shares about the track, “Arthur Russell sang ‘being sad is not a crime,’ and yet somehow when I went through a period of despair in January, I felt that the best course of action was to hide myself away from the world. I think ‘Recognise’ is a song about coming out the other side of that feeling. Slowly coming to the understanding that everything is ok. And that ok is good. That I can sit quietly, read a book, sip a coffee, and deeply appreciate being here and everything that has happened and has yet to happen.”
