The Silver Doors - 'The Silver Doors'

7/10

Throughout the past year, North Carolina's The Silver Doors have been quick to establish themselves as one of the more ambitious names emerging on the scene right now. With a sound that plays effortlessly with the psych-rock genre in order to create something far more original to themselves, these last few months have been littered with a wealth of well-received offerings, pushing their aesthetic ever forward. And with plenty of material now out in the world, they look to cement their vibrant legacy to date with their eagerly-awaited self-titled debut album, a record brimming with more of that innovative spirit they are known for.

While they are certainly embracers of the psychedelic style, every track sees them embark on a distinctive approach to production and instrumentation that leaves the listener wondering exactly where they plan to go next. With the opening effort 'Redeemer' exploring a trad-folk texture, while its follow up conjures a more prog-rock appeal, 'The Silver Doors' has this incredibly varied nature to it, but still manages to come off extremely succinct and cohesive as it plays.

The Silver Doors have certainly been busy making their mark with a flurry of singles recently, but hearing them all together really heightens their dynamic and enigmatic flow of late. Brimming with this broad and immersive quality that seems keen to explore the furthest reaches of their sound throughout, this new collection makes for a dazzling introduction to what they have been cultivating so far.
