SMPL TXT are back with an infectious new single

Manchester's SMPL TXT are serving up a slice of scuzzy nostalgia with 'Oh My My', a track that captures the raw spirit of early-00s indie rock with a distinctly Northern twist.

The new single finds the four-piece leaning into their love of fuzzed-out guitars and infectious hooks, crafting something that sits comfortably between garage-rock energy and the melodic punch of classic British indie. Recorded at Blueprint Studios with producer Tim Thomas - whose CV includes Gorillaz and Duran Duran - the track balances grit with polish, letting the band's live energy shine through without losing the hookiness.

There's a tension running through 'Oh My My' that makes it more than just another indie throwback. Beneath the crunchy riffs and driving rhythm section lies a story about watching a friend spiral, delivered with the kind of casual concern that only comes from genuine worry dressed up as banter.

"It started as a relationship song but became about friendship instead," says lead guitarist Jordan. "It's about worrying for a mate and their lifestyle, but from that nonchalant angle where you're discussing it with other friends. Like, 'they did what last night? Oh my my...'"

The band have been steadily building their reputation across the North West since 2022, cutting their teeth at venues like Bootleg Social and Castle Hotel, and recently supporting 90s rockers CUD alongside newer acts like Canned Pineapple.

'Oh My My' marks SMPL TXT at their most confident yet - a band unafraid to wear their influences on their sleeve while carving out something that feels genuinely their own.
