The Soft Moon - 'Deeper'

7/10

While the Soft Moon project has always been the brainchild of producer and songwriter Luis Vasquez, this new full-length has been viewed as more of collaboration than a solo project. Having spent the last year working with Italian producer Maurizio Baggio on his latest album 'Deeper', the frontman has managed to reignite the sound of his former self as this new release looks to challenge him in more ways than he thought possible.

Coming across as a high-energy industrial record, reminiscent of Crystal Castles and early Nine Inch Nails, 'Deeper' looks to pitch a more experimental and diverse angle to the genre and the result is an abstract yet brilliantly creative new release. Fluttering between instrumental interludes and scarcely-added brooding vocals, this new album looks to put the production at its forefront and let you get immersed in its rich tapestry of erratic high-end beats and demonic electronics.

While it will still sound like a classic Soft Moon on the surface, the confidence in the songwriting is what shines through the most on this new full-length. Vasquez seems to have come further out of his shell than before, and the result is a brilliantly conceive collection of tracks that excite and engage at every turn.
